Status of the CDMS search for WIMPs
The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) experiment uses germanium and silicon detectors cooled to 20 mK to attempt to detect weakly interacting dark matter particles in our galactic halo. We discuss recent results obtained with an array of two 165 g germanium detectors and a 100 g silicon detector after a 33 live-day exposure. I THE CHALLENGE OF WIMP DETECTION. One possible solution to the famo...
متن کاملDevelopment of Gaseous Tracking Devices for the Search of WIMPs
The Time Projection Chamber (TPC) has been recognized as a potentially powerful detector for the search of WIMPs by measuring the directions of nuclear recoils, in which the most convincing signature of WIMPs, caused by the Earth’s motion around the Galaxy, appears. We report on the first results of a performance study of the neutron exposure of our prototype micro-TPC with Ar-C2H6 (90:10) and ...
متن کاملHunting for WIMPs with the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search
The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) is an experiment whose goal is to detect WIMPs via elastic-scattering interactions in detectors capable of nuclear-recoil discrimination. Recent advances in eliminating a low-energy-electron background are discussed. Data from the current run yield 1 nuclear-recoil candidate above 25 keV recoil energy in 1.7 kg-days of exposure.
متن کاملHiggs Bosons and the Indirect Search for WIMPs
We investigated the contribution of the MSSM Higgs bosons produced in the neutralino annihilation in the Earth and Sun to the total WIMPs detection signal. We found that this contribution is very important and results in a lower bound for the muon flux from the Sun of 10 ÷ 10 m yr for neutralinos heavier than about 200 GeV. We noticed that due to the SUSY charged Higgs bosons one can expect an ...
متن کاملAn Indirect Search for WIMPs with Super-Kamiokande
A potential source of high energy neutrinos is the annihilation of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) collecting in gravitational potential wells such as the centers of the Earth, the Sun, or the Galaxy. A search for such a WIMP annihilation signal using the Super-Kamiokande (SuperK) detector is presented. Super-K observes 1.1 upward throughgoing muons per day. These events are caused...
